that may be isolated from the mucous membranes lining these structures. Although the lower respiratory tract is in direct continuity with the secretions draining the upper respiratory tract, it is, by contrast, normally sterile.2` This remarkable difference is brought about by a series of coordinated mechanisms of the mammalian host which act to protect the tracheobronchial tree and pulmonary parenchyma from infection. Only when injury, acute or chronic, has occurred does bacterial infection of the lower respiratory tract usually arise. There are some exceptions to this generalization such as diptheria and perhaps pertussis, pneumonic plague and tularemia, and tuberculosis; but in general, this view seems valid.

Cryptosporidial Infection of Lower Respiratory Tract in a Budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulates)
Cryptosporial and bacterial co-infection is reported in a budgerigar with clinical manifestations of septicemia and respiratory tract infection. Microscopically large number of round to oval 2-5μm cryptosporidial organisms were found to be lodged on the parabronchial epithelial cells of the respiratory tract. The bacterial colonies were seen around the parabronchial spaces of the lung tissue. I...

Background: Acute respiratory tract infections, both bacterial and viral, cause 4.5 million childhood deaths worldwide, most of which occur in developing countries. Parainfluenza viruses, of the paramyxoviridae family, are among the common causes of acute respiratory infections, giving rise to 30% of respiratory infections in children before school age. The four parainfluenza viruses that cause...
متن کاملAntibacterial Activity of Capsicum annum L. Juice Against Klebsiella pneumonia Isolated from Respiratory Tract Infections
Aims: Klebsiella pneumoniae can be defined as one of the virulent pathogens with a high level of antibiotic resistance. The goal of the presented work was to see if Capsicum annuum L. juice has antibacterial activity against K. pneumonia, a bacteria seen in respiratory tract infections. Materials & Methods: Fifty respiratory tract infections have been collected that include such bacterium’s r...
متن کاملClinical Value of Toll Like Receptor 4 and CD14 in Children with Acute Lower Respiratory Tract Infection
Toll like receptors (TLRs) with a myeloid differentiation antigen (CD14) recognize and bind various structures from invading microbes and then trigger cell activation. They initiate a variety of effectors' functions, including cytokine secretion, proliferation, co-stimulation or phagocyte maturation. The aim of this study was to evaluate Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and CD14 expression in childr...
متن کاملA Clinical Study to Compare the Bacterial Flora of Lower Respiratory Tract immediately after Tracheostomy and during First Tube Change
Tracheostomy directly exposes the lower respiratory tract to the exogenous bacteria increasing the risk of colonization of lower respiratory tract. The present study was done in patients who underwent tracheostomy and the study compares bacterial flora of oropharnyx and lower respiratory tract during tracheostomy with that of the bacterial flora of the lower respiratory tract during the first t...
